Am I a candidate for a butt lift?

Candidates for butt lift surgery should be at or near their goal weight, be in good health, and not smoke. The procedure might be right for you if you suffer from:

  • Dimpled skin on the buttocks
  • Loose, hanging skin on the buttocks
  • Skin that has lost its ability to contract
  • Uneven fat distribution on the buttocks
  • Loss of rounded volume in the buttocks

In your initial consultation, we will evaluate your skin and muscle tone, review your medical history, and take the time to understand your unique goals and history. If you are a candidate for a butt lift, our board-certified plastic surgeon will craft a custom surgical plan to restore a more attractive, round, lifted butt structure that helps you feel sexy and beautiful.

Advanced surgical techniques for a butt lift

Your personalized surgical plan is designed based on the quantity and location of the sagging skin and tissues. Our plastic surgeon will employ one of two methods for a custom butt lift:

  • Buttock crease: In this technique, the incisions are made in the crease below the buttocks. This approach allows for moderate tightening of the skin on the butt and backs of the thighs, as well as fat distribution and adjustments to the underlying tissue matrix.
  • Above the buttocks: The incisions in this approach are similar to those made in the lower body lift procedure. The incisions are located between the buttocks and the lower back and allow surgeons to redistribute fat, tighten the underlying supporting structures, and redistribute fat.

In addition to these skin excision techniques, you may opt to have butt implants placed if you have lost volume in your buttocks. This approach can correct milder cases of skin laxity by augmenting the butt and stretching out the skin. If you have an excess of fatty tissue in the buttocks, you may choose to undergo liposuction, along with skin excision techniques, for more comprehensive improvements in the appearance of your backside.

Your custom butt lift procedure

A butt lift usually takes two to three hours to complete and includes the following steps:

  • The incision locations on the buttocks and lower back are marked with a surgical pen
  • The patient is put under general anesthesia
  • An antibacterial solution is applied to the treatment area
  • The incisions are made along the pen markings
  • The skin is separated from the underlying structures
  • The tissue and muscles are adjusted
  • Fat is redistributed
  • The skin is stretched over the buttocks
  • Extra skin is excised
  • The incisions are closed
  • The treatment area is cleaned
  • Medical tape and bandages are applied
  • The patient is put in a compression garment

Recovering from a butt lift

Any surgery that involves skin excision will require a recovery period. You can expect to resume light activity within the first week, but full recovery can take six to eight weeks. During the early few days of recovery, you will need to rest, keep your head elevated, apply ice packs regularly, and take pain medication to manage pain and discomfort. You must wear the compression garment at all times for four weeks after surgery. Though light walks are encouraged after surgery, heavy exercise or strenuous activity must be avoided for four to six weeks.

Butt lift risks

As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks associated with a butt lift. They are very rare, but include:

  • Allergy to any of the materials used during surgery or aftercare
  • Infection
  • Asymmetry of the buttocks
  • Bleeding or hematoma
  • Seroma (fluid accumulation)
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Poor scarring

Is a butt lift painful?

A butt lift is performed under general anesthesia, so you will not feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure. Once your procedure is complete, you can expect moderate levels of pain, along with bruising, swelling, and numbness or itchiness at the incision sites. Most of this discomfort can be managed with pain medication, and they rapidly subside after the first few days of recovery. Most patients find the remarkable results that can be achieved with a butt lift well worth the recovery period!

Your butt lift results

Your final butt lift results will leave you feeling confident and attractive, with a lifted, firmer, more sculpted derriere. All bruising and swelling will fade within one to three months of your surgery, at which point your final results will be visible. The scars at the incision sites will continue to disappear for a year or longer, eventually becoming virtually invisible.
