If cellulite affects you, you’ll be happy to know that a brand new, groundbreaking injectable medication offers a simple solution with extremely promising results.

Meet Qwo. Qwo is the first and only FDA-approved injectable medication for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite on the buttocks of adult women.

Following the most extensive studies ever conducted on cellulite, Qwo was approved by the FDA in 2020 and was made available in the United States in the spring of 2021. Even though Qwo is indicated for the treatment of cellulite affecting the buttocks, it has been used to treat cellulite affecting other areas of the body as well.

As an exclusive provider of Qwo, we are extremely excited to be a part of this rollout, as it allows us to deliver you the very latest effective cellulite treatment. Best of all, treatment with Qwo is nonsurgical, involves no incisions, and requires no recovery downtime.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is an orange-peel or cottage-cheese-like appearance on the surface of the skin that occurs for a number of reasons, including genetic factors and hormonal fluctuations. It most often appears on the buttocks, thighs, and upper arms.

If we look beneath the skin in these areas affected by cellulite, we find that cellulite is caused by bands of connective tissue called “fibrous septae.”

Fibrous septae connect the skin itself to the muscles below.

Cellulite presents with at least three unique properties, each of which is addressed by Qwo:

  1. Bands of connective tissue pulling the skin downward in certain parts cause the divots and dimples of cellulite.
  2. Fatty tissue herniating upward between these fibrous bands causes the bumps and peaks of cellulite.
  3. The skin surface itself gets thinner in these areas, allowing No. 1 and No. 2 (the peaks and valleys) to appear more prominently.

How does Qwo work?

Qwo dissolves the fibrous bands of connective tissue that contribute to cellulite. Fibrous septae are composed of two specific types of collagen. Qwo is composed of naturally occurring enzymes that dissolve only these types of collagen, leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected.

By dissolving these fibrous bands that are causing cellulite, the condition clears up and the skin returns to a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Who is an ideal candidate for Qwo?

The ideal candidate for Qwo is an adult female with moderate to severe dimple-like cellulite on the buttocks. Cellulite affecting other areas of the body may also be treated with Qwo if prescribed by a doctor or physician assistant for this off-label use.

Is Qwo right for me?

  • Qwo was extensively tested on women of all skin tones and skin types and was found to be effective in dramatically reducing the appearance of cellulite.
  • Since Qwo is a non-surgical procedure that simply requires it be injected into cellulite dimples, most adult females bothered by cellulite will likely benefit from treatment.
  • Qwo may not be right for you if you have certain blood clotting disorders, are taking blood-thinning medications, or are currently pregnant or nursing.

Can men get Qwo?

Men are unlikely to benefit from Qwo because their fibrous septae are physically structured differently than women (running more horizontally than vertically, thus preventing the male fatty tissue from bulging upward).

What can Qwo accomplish?

Qwo can help you to permanently resolve the cellulite on your body, allowing you to feel restored confidence and increased self-worth. Besides, it’ll make both the beach and the bedroom more comfortable to experience.

What can I expect during Qwo treatment?

  • At your first Qwo treatment, we will take photographs of your buttocks while you are standing with your gluteus muscles relaxed. This allows both provider and patient to get a complete understanding and agreement on what we are trying to accomplish through treatment.
  • The cellulite dimples needing treatment are then circled so they show up well while you are getting treatment.
  • Next, you will lie down on a comfortable treatment table and each cellulite dimple will be injected with Qwo. In each session, up to 12 dimples can be treated per buttock.
  • Three treatment sessions are done 21 days apart.
You are free to return to your routine activities after treatment.

Recovery and results

All side effects of Qwo are self-resolving and won’t prevent you from returning to your routine social and professional activities.

  • Bruising is the most prominent side effect and typically resolves in 14 to 21 days.
  • Mild swelling and redness at injection sites also occur and will clear up rapidly.
  • After each subsequent treatment, side effects occur less and less and recovery gets faster and faster.
  • Qwo is best done several weeks in advance of a beach trip or other activity where the buttocks will be exposed, as the bruising can be quite pronounced.
  • Results are seen within 28 days of completing treatment.
